The Norwalk Fire Department responded to a commercial structure fire this morning, at 7 Reynolds Street, at 5:49am. Upon arrival heavy smoke was pushing from the Norwalk Linen building. Firefighters entering the building encountered heavy fire and advanced multiple hose lines to extinguish the fire, as truck crews ventilated the roof. The fire was placed under control at 6:45am, as crews continued to work on extinguishing smoldering linen in and around collapsed machinery.
No injuries were reported as firefighters worked in below freezing temperatures and icey conditions around the building. Norwalk’s entire on duty shift responded to the fire with 33 Firefighters on 5 Engines , 2 Trucks a Rescue and Command Car. Stamford, Westport, New Canaan and Rowayton Fire Departments covered Norwalk during the fire, until 8:30am. Rowayton FD extinguished a car fire with Westport Fire during the incident. Deputy Fire Marshal Kirk McDonald and Fire Inspector Bryan Scully have called in the State Fire Marshal to assist in investigating the cause of the fire.
