PRESS RELEASE
At 23:49hrs Friday March 6th. E1, E4, C2, T2, R2, T1, E2, responded to 7 Buttonball Rd. A two story cape style house, for a reported house fire. When E4 arrived, the homeowner stated that the fire was in the first-floor bedroom on the B, C corner, and the fire was out. E4 investigated and found heavy smoke condition and a bedroom fire. They advanced a 1 3/4" line through the back door. C2 arrived and took command. E1 laid a supply line into E4., T2 and R2 did a primary search of the fire floor and the floor above they found pets on the second floor and rescued two cats and a ferret. T1 secured the utilities and searched the lower level of the building. E2 set up RIT near the command post completed a 360 while softening the building throwing ladders and looking for hazards. The crews overhauled the fire room and did secondary searches. Command put the fire under control. The building was metered. Inspector Roos was on scene doing a Fire investigation. Two Firefighters were injured at the scene. One was transported to Norwalk Hospital for treatment the other was treated at the scene.
During this fire at 12:15hrs a second House fire was reported at 38 Maher Dr. C3, E5, E3 & T1 Responded. E5 members found smoke coming the D-side of basement bathroom window. Firefighters remove exterior siding sheathing and trim interior sheetrock and used water can to wet down smoldering framing. The window was removed from the structure. The Ceiling above opened with no sign of extension. Entire area and bathroom above cheeked with TIC - no heat signatures noted. Once extinguishment and overhaul completed, E5 members used plywood found in garage to cover over the window opening from the outside.
