The Norwalk Fire Department responded to an accident involving a small box truck into a telephone pole on East Avenue, just north of Route, at 3:35pm, Thursday afternoon. The box truck which had 2 occupants split a pole in half and the tension caused the adjacent pole to also split. While diverting traffic and clearing the hazard area, a transformer blew and wires were smoking. East Avenue was closed between Cannon Street and Route 1 and the residents on the  pole side of the street were advised to stay in their homes.

The occupants of the truck appeared uninjured and Eversource crews arrived on scene within a few minutes to assess the situation.

Norwalk Police are investigating the cause of the accident
