At 1:13 am on Sunday December 29, 2019, members of Local 830 responded to a fire in a single story commercial building, at 108 Connecticut Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters found a single story commercial occupancy under renovation with heavy smoke coming from the front metal roll-down gate. Engine Co. 2 made entry through a rear door that was already open upon arrival. Due to the quick arrival by the initial responding companies (the address was directly across from Station 2), the fire was quickly knocked down, once members gained access to the front through the roll-down gate.
While the fire was contained to the building, firefighters positioned apparatus for any possible extension into a neighboring commercial warehouse, that abutted the building. The renovated building was set to open in a couple weeks, as a barber shop.
Norwalk Police shut down a one block portion of Connecticut Avenue, while firefighters used the fire hydrant, at Fire Headquarters, across the street. The road was opened at 2;30am. The fire was handled by E2, E1, E5, T2, T1, R2, and Car 2. FM7 and FM8 as well as the CT State Fire Marshals office conducted an investigation.
