The Norwalk Fire Department responded to small fire in the basement of a commercial building at 20 Broad Street, at 3:30 am, Thursday morning. The fire was quickly extinguished, but a moderate smoke condition filled the 2 story commercial building that housed several businesses. Firefighters were on scene till 5:00 am, ventilating the building.
Firefighters also responded to several calls related to the strong electrical storms that swept through the area Wednesday afternoon into the evening. A shed in the back yard of a home on Ledgewood Drive caught fire as result of a possible lightning strike around 8:45 pm. Other possible strikes resulted in several alarms, trees on wires or wires arcing, and a tree burning from the inside-out in the woods off North Bridge Street.
Fire inspector Jesse Granton is investigating the cause of the Building and shed fires.
