Norwalk Fire department

Press Release

Norwalk Fire responded to a house fire on 30 West Rocks Rd.  at 1:14 pm. Upon arrival there was heavy fire showing from the second and third floor. This was a large three story home. Firefighters entered the home and started searching for the occupant. While fighting the fire on all three floors firefighters located the victim on the first floor and removed him from the home . Norwalk Hospital was on scene and began CPR. There  was only one person home at the time. An adult male who was later pronounced dead.

The conditions of the home were very difficult due to an extreme hording condition. This made the job of extinguishment and searching for the victim very difficult. This was the second fatality of the year with hording conditions being a factor. The fire was brought under control in 2 hours. Norwalk responded with all hands working, 5 engines 2 truck companies and one rescue. Also fire fighters from Stamford Fire responded to the fire, while New Canaan, Westport Darien and Rowayton covered the stations.

Norwalk Fire Inspectors are investigating the cause of the fire along with the State Fire Marshal. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, there were no other injuries reported.

Thank you,

Stephen Shay

Deputy Chief
