At 1324 hrs today the Norwalk Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 25 Leuvine St. Initial reports stated there was a fire on a rear deck. Upon arrival Firefighters found the second floor rear porch / deck extensively involved in fire. Immediately after arrival a 20 lb propane tank on the deck opened its pressure relief valve releasing Propane gas to vent pressure. This gas immediately ignited and greatly increased the Fire volume on the porch. Extending up the rear and inside the Structure.
Fire Crews extinguished the fire quickly, and ventilated and Overhauled the structure checking for fire extension in the building.
No injuries were reported and it appears as though One person was home at the time of the fire.
The Fire was declared under control at 1348 hrs and Fire Crews cleared the scene at 1612 hrs
The building is currently unfit for occupancy it is unknown at present how many need to be relocated, and the Fire Marshal’s Office is continuing the investigation of the cause of the fire.
Also a reminder to all to change the batteries in your Smoke Detectors this weekend when you move your clocks ahead 1 hour.
