Press Release
March 30, 2014
The Norwalk Fire Department’s Marine Division responded to a reported boat adrift in the Norwalk Harbor, near the Shore and Country Club at 12:56pm. While en route to the unmanned boat the firefighters noticed a man clinging to a mooring buoy in the river by channel marker 1 in East Norwalk. They quickly pulled the man from the 35 degree water and radioed communications to dispatch an ambulance to the Veterans Park.
The man in his mid 50’s appeared hypothermic and said that he may have been in the water for over 30 minutes. While en route to Vet’s park docks, Firefighters took the man’s vitals and did their best to warm him in the cabin of the fireboat. Once at the dock the man was able to walk, with assistance to the awaiting Norwalk Ambulance.
The Firefighters then headed back out to retrieve the disabled boat and tow it to the transient docks at Veteran’s Memorial Park. Norwalk’s Marine Police will be investigating the cause of the man falling overboard.
