The Norwalk Fire Department responded to a reported basement fire at 204 South Main Street just after 11:00pm Friday night. The fire was located in a basement bedroom of the 2 ½ story wood framed, 2 family home. Heavy fire was visible through the basement windows upon arrival of fire crews and the house was fully charged with smoke. Firefighters quickly advanced on the fire and confined it to the basement bedroom. The fire was declared under control by 11:20 and Firefighters remained on scene till 1:15am Saturday morning ensuring the fire didn’t extend into the upper floors..

An female occupant from the 1st floor suffered smoke inhalation and a male occupant of the basement bedroom suffered burns to his face and hands, they were found outside the rear of the home as firefighters arrived. They were transported to Norwalk Hospital by Paramedics. Their condition at press time was unknown, all other occupants escaped uninjured.

The home has been posted unfit for occupancy, as the gas and electric utilities were disconnected due to fire damage. The 2nd floor occupants were staying with neighbors temporarily and were arranging to stay with friends. It’s unclear at press time the exact number of occupants of the home, but 5 people were in the home at the time of the fire.

Fire Inspector Kirk McDonald is investigating the cause of the blaze and the State Fire Marshal has been called in to assist with the investigation.
