15 Van Buren Avenue MVA w/structural damage

The Norwalk Fire Department responded to SUV crash into a home this morning at 10:37 am, at 15 Van Buren Avenue . The SUV was traveling north when it left the roadway at the corner of Maple Street and Van Buren Avenue . The SUV went through a porch at 13 Van Buren then through a chain link fence, before striking the right front corner of the home. The two occupants of the SUV a woman and a child were transported to Norwalk Hospital , by Paramedics. The extent of their injuries is unknown although the baby was crying and the woman was conscious prior to being transported. The impact of the SUV knocked out a 10’ section of foundation and knocked the front of the 2 family home about 6” off its foundation. The impact also broke the natural gas meter piping in the basement creating a volatile atmosphere in the home. Firefighters evacuated the 2 adults and small child, who were in the home at the time of the crash, then secured electrical and phone lines to the home. Ventilation fans were then used to vent the house as Yankee Gas workers worked to secure the gas flow into the house. The gas line was secured by 11:30 and the house was posted unfit for occupancy by Building Officials. The Property owner was working on relocating the 6 displaced tenants from the 2 apartments. Van Buren Avenue traffic was closed to traffic for just over an hour as emergency crews worked. The last Fire Companies left the scene by 11:45 leaving Yankee Gas and Police on scene investigating. I Engine, 1 Truck, a Rescue and Command Car responded to the scene.
