The Norwalk Fire Department responded to a reported fire in an apartment complex located at 29 Ferris Avenue . Upon arrival fire crews found a burning couch in apartment 26 and a heavy smoke condition throughout the first floor. The fire came in at 3:26 am. and was quickly extinguished limiting damage to the couch.
Fire crews remained on scene till 4:40 am. to ventilate the smoke, monitor for carbon monoxide and other gases in the other 5 apartments with a common stairwell in building number 3, in the 3 building complex. The resident of the fire apartment and all other residents were allowed to remain in their apartments.
Deputy Fire Marshal Chris Hansen is investigating the cause of the fire.
Earlier Saturday night around 10:00 pm. Washington street was shut down so fire crews could investigate a chimney fire at 117 Washington St. The street was closed for approximately 45 minutes while fire crews laddered the roof and determined the building safe.
