Firefighters free worker's arm crushed and caught in machine in industrial accident

The Norwalk Fire Department responded to a report of a worker's hand caught in a machine at Yankee Linen Tuesday at 12:43 p.m.  An unidentified worker in his 30's had his arm pulled into a steam/ironing machine used to press linens, according to Deputy Chief Edward Prescott.  The machine had some sort of operating issue so the worker climbed under the machine to investigate when his arm was pulled in by the rollers, Prescott said in a press release.  The worker was in extreme pain when firefighters arrived to find his arm crushed and stuck in the machine. His arm had been pulled in mid-way between his wrist and elbow by the machines rollers, Prescott said.  Firefighters were able to free the worker within minutes of arrival with pry bars. A portable hydraulic tool (Jaws of Life) was being prepared if the pry bars didn't free the man.  Paramedics tended to the man's injured arm and transported him to Norwalk Hospital. Yankee linen is located at 22 Muller Park, an industrial complex located off Broad Street.
