NORWALK -- A fire, which started on the rear porch of a Senga Road house Saturday night, nearly ended tragically for two family dogs but Norwalk fire crews were able to pull them from the smoke and flame.
Deputy Chief Stephen Shay said that upon arrival to 11 Senga Road just after 9 p.m., fire crews found heavy fire blowing out the rear of the home on the first and second floor.
Firefighters stretched a line to the front door for "fire extinguishment" while truck companies ventilated the house according to Shay. The houses' occupants were not home at the time but fire officials began a search and rescue operation for two dogs. Both dogs were found alive and brought outside.
Shay said the fire appears to have started in the back porch of the single-family home. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Neighbors were first to alert the fire department to the fire.
The house was posted unfit for occupancy displacing four occupants. The first and second floor sustained heavy fire damage and smoke damage to the rest of the house.
