Norwalk firefighters deliver healthy baby boy

NORWALK -- Just like that, the Norwalk firefighters became doulas Sunday, delivering a healthy baby boy.  The Norwalk Fire Department, along with Norwalk Hospital Paramedics responded to a 20 year old woman in labor at the Roodner Court Housing Complex at 1:52 p.m. Sunday. Just 12 minutes later the child was born.  Upon arrival at the apartment the firefighters realized that child birth was immanent and prepared an obstetrics kit for child birth. Hospital Paramedics arrived as the baby was about to deliver and assisted firefighters with the birth of a 6 pounds and 5 ounce baby boy.  According to fire officials, the mother and child were both transported to Norwalk Hospital and as of this release both are doing well.  Engine 5 Stationed on Meadow Street were the first responders on scene with Fire Captain Todd Smith, Firefighters Steve Wooten, John Eagen and Mark Monroe. Paramedic Debra Burch and EMT Daniel Dougherty responded from Norwalk Hospital to complete the team effort that resulted in the safe delivery of a healthy baby boy.
